Slap Kozjak

Slap Kozjak Waterfall in Kobarid

Slap Kozjak plunges over 15 meters into a vibrant emerald pool below. The Kozjak River, a tributary of the Soča River, is fed by melting snow and rainwater from Mount Krnčice (2,142m). Along the Kozjak River are six waterfalls, though only two are accessible for viewing (unless you're into canyoning!). You can kick off the hike from the parking lot at Kamp Koren. The trail takes around 20-30 minutes (covering 1.9 km) and is quite manageable, with an elevation gain of approximately 100 meters. Slap Kozjak's thundering cascade and tranquil surroundings create a magical atmosphere, inviting visitors to linger and soak in the beauty of this hidden gem.

Visitors to the waterfall must pay a small entrance fee. Visitors can pay the entrance fee at a small trailer conveniently located at the entrance of the trail. Additionally, the trailer offers locally sourced honey for sale, providing visitors with a sweet taste of the region's flavors.

Virje Waterfall

Virje WaterfallIn the area of Plužna village we can visit the picturesque Virje waterfall and the karstic source of Glijun creek. This is one of the largest and most constant karst sources in the Soča valley. Springing from among the rocks in the bed of the Glijun, the water has an average temperature of 5.5 °C.

 

The best time to travel to the Soča Valley

The best time to visit the Soča Valley is usually from mid-May to mid-October. During these months, the valley offers mild temperatures and a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, rafting, kayaking, and fishing. The landscape is particularly stunning at this time, with lush green forests, clear rivers, and spectacular mountain scenery. Spring and autumn are especially charming, as nature is in full bloom or adorned in vibrant autumn colors. In summer, temperatures can be high, but the rivers provide refreshing relief. However, it's advisable to check travel times in advance as mountain weather can change rapidly.
